Tamarack Nature Center

Just up the road from our old house in White Bear Lake is a nature center.  When Evie was small, she was able to take preschool classes there.  We loved it because we tromped through the woods every class.
Recently, they added a nature park area.  Instead of the traditional playsets, they created natural looking play areas.  Like this rock climbing wall. It was probably 7-8 feet tall but I never saw a kid fall off.  And that sky?  That was rain rolling in.  we sometimes forget what rain looks like around here.

I was super impressed by this park and after being here, this was the only place the girls wanted to visit in Minnesota.  I think we could have stayed here all week.

Evie climbed to the top of the wall with no problem.

There were built in steps, caves and tunnels too.

Our little model found all kinds of places to pose.

What a little cheeseball.

They also have a children's garden complete with solar power. That's what this big palm tree is--solar panels.

The girls take a quick break on a log bench.

The third area was a wooded theme.  I really liked the log pathway.

and there were a bunch of sticks and logs to build whatever you could imagine.

This is my favorite pose after a long day of playing.

Mini Vacation to Minnesota

This summer, we set out to be flexible and fun.  We were able to tag along with Jim on a trip to Minnesota.
While we were there, the main objective was FUN.  What better place to have fun than at the Mall of America in the amusement park????

We met Laura, Nate, and Michele there and the girls wanted to go on the swings first.

They took a hop on the WonderPets hopper.  These girls are getting so big their legs are starting to drag on the ground!

Evie drove a bumper car

Laura drove Annalise around.

Laura, Evie and I went on the log chute ride where you go down 2 big hills and get splashed.  Evie could hardly believe that there were no seatbelts on this ride.

All four kids took a hot air balloon ride.

And finished the day on the ferris wheel
It was a pretty fun day.

Chores at Conner Prairie

Finally, we are up to June!  Not bad for mid-July.
We visited our favorite place on the north side, Conner Prairie.  We normally don't take many pictures but happened to have the camera on us when the girls were recruited to do chores outside of the Golden Eagle Inn.

They hauled water out to the pasture to water the cows.  Where are their bonnets and long skirts??

Marin Graduates from the 8th Grade

Marin has really grown up. This spring, she graduated from the 8th grade.
Marin will be attending Noblesville (Go Millers!) next year.  I'm partial to Noblesville as they are Black and Gold.

Marin delivered a nice speech to thank all the parents.  She had almost everyone in tears.

Evie and I congratulate the Graduate.

Marin and her proud parents.

Rope Swing

Summer of home fun started on Memorial Day weekend.  Instead of doing a big project the girls and Jim (and the Carlsons) did a small one. They made a rope swing for the front tree.
This was a great way to spend an afternoon. Especially when they all got in on the act of protecting one another from the tree trunk.

This may have been a little too high for Annalise.

Evie had a great time.

and then Annalise got the hang of it.

the rest of us? Well, the kids errected a tent and umbrella shelter and the Carlsons and I watched people wander in and out of the neighbor's house for their son's graduation party. Talk about neighborhood watch.  We did eventually go over with our card and congratulate the graduate (and ate cake--yum)

Back at home, Miss Beth decided it was high time to pick some cherries so she set up some child labor to get the job done.
